Taff-Ely Turtles Trip To Germany May 2003
Saturday;
Tour of Stuttgart; Travelling by car to a station on the outskirts and then by metro-tram into the centre of Stuttgart. We were impressed with the efficiency and cleanliness of their transport system. After touring some of the historic buildings we visited an indoor market and eventually stopped for lunch in the centre where there were benches and tables with stalls selling sausages and refreshments including locally produced beers. Once everyone was refreshed we returned to the cars and then went to the pretty town of Esslingen for coffee and cake. There was a display of an old dray cart with shire type horses in all their saddlrey and the organisers wore traditional costumes. After returning to the hotel we had a short break 1hr 40 mins before we were taken out again 6:45 p.m. for an evening meal to a Greek restaurant at a local sports/social club which was provided by the local twinning association, after the meal we presented some personal gifts to our hosts who had relentlessly ferried us about and entertained us during our stay, arriving back at hotel about 10:30.
